CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Clutha County \ Council was held at Clinton on Friday, when | there were present : Crs Robertson (chairman), I Mitchell, Wallace, M'Lachlan, M'Neil, Hay, ] Bradfield, Cumming, and Johnstone. i CORRESPONDENCE. J The Surveyor-general wrote stating that a j sum of £150 had been granted towards cost of ? ereoting Waipahi bridge.— Consideration of the letter was deferred for a month, as application had been made for a further £100. The Surveyor-general wrote asking for a sketch plan showing the position where the counoil proposed to erect the Kelso, Clydevale, • and Pomahaka bridges, and stating that the Minister understood that the council was being urged to erect the Pomahaka bridge in a position more to suit the Clydev*le estate than .the Pomahaka settlers, in whose interest the money was voted. — It was agreed that plans and. specifications of Eelso bridge be forwarded. — Consideration of a petition signed by 16 settlers with respect to the Pomahaka bridge was deferred for a month. The Tuapek'a Council forwarded copy of a telegram received from the Minister for Lands by the Hon. Mr Larnach regarding tha Poina- . haka and Kelso bridges.— Received. , The Superintendent of Electric Lines enclosed a printed form of bond tor completion iv connection with telephone between Toiro and Warepa. The Secretary of the Benevolent Institution wrote re continuation of relief to a widow and ' family in Clinton. — The letter was re/jaivfcd, . and the aid reduced to 9« per week. Mr R. Meikle, Waitapeka, wrote asking for • the construction of road through Mr Telford's paddock.— Referred to the engineer to attend to. Mr Pidrick Glinnan, Tahatika, wrote olaim- ' ing £40 damages in consequence of having had to remove-hit house to enable l&nd to be taken for road-making purpoies, such course never •, having been adopted, and the said lacd being cropped by another person. — Received. Constable Remer, Clintou, wrote stating . that a new police regulation prevented con- , stables collecting the dog tax, and aft a conse- j quence he had to decline the collection within > the county. — It waa agreed that teuders bo • called for collecting dog tax, tenders to bo in by j noxt meeting. J Mr J. S. Fleming, secretary Clutha River Board, wrote asking for permission to quarry stone from river bank roadline, Rauklebarn. — The request was granted on condition that the River Board do not encroach too close to the road. Mr John M'Nutt, Tahatika, wrote asking for the removal of an obstruction from roadline running between seotiona 4, 5, and 6, block I, and asking for an expenditure of £3 or £4 ou the road to make it passable. — Consideration was deferred till-next meeting. Eight settlers of Houipapa, wrote drawing attention to contracts in that locality not being proceeded with, and asking council to see that the work is proceeded with. * A letter from Mr John Goldsborough was not reoeived owing to it boipg disrespectful to one of the councillors. Messrs Smith and Williamson, Woodlands, j asking that a roadline be closed. — -Tha appli- j cation Was declined. MOTIONS. On the motion of Cr Hay, seconded by Or M'Neii., it was resolved — "That tenders be called for opening up block line leading to village settlement, Awakiko Bush, tenders to be opened at next meeting." Cr Johnstone moved, and Cr Bradfield seconded — "That tenders be called for seven chains formation and metalling at the west end of the Upper Kaihika bridge ; that tenders be j called for 70 yards of maintenance metal between ! the Puerua Stream and the. Waitapeka railway station ; that, the engineer be authorised to ; put a culverb and a gate on the new road to Woodburn, the property of Mr R. Meikle."— Carried. Cr M'Lachlan moved, and Cr Comming seconded — ** That the engineer be instructed to prepare plans'aud call for tenders for forming a portion of district road loading to Mr Robin's property ; also formation along the flat on north side of bridge." — Carried. On the motion of Cr Robertson, the clerk •was instructed to supply the Minister for Landa with plum and specifications of Kelso bridge. Cr Bradfield moved — " That a separate rate <jf -£d in the pound be struck in the Catling Ridiug to meet the Government subsidy for metalling Owaka railway station "and other necessary work." — The motion was seconded by Cr Wallace and carried. * On the motion of Cr Hay, seconded by Cr Mitchklii, it wa» resolved that tenders be called for re-erecting timber bridge on the Omare Stream, Port Molyneux road. A motion to remove the council offices and meetings to Balelulha waa lost ou the casting vote of the Chairman.
