THE GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.
Messrs Samuel Our and Co., Stafford street, | report for the week ending Febuary 3 as 1 follows :— ' We have had several hours' rain during the week, *nd though heavy in some places north, it retarded harvest operations temporarily. Oats. — Ihe weakness in these reported by us last week has continued, and, we fear, the market haß seen its top for some little time at least, as deliveries are taking p. ace north at a shade under our prices, and as harvest takes place there it will be more so. Sales of dun and Danish have actually taken place at Is 9d and Is lOd (f.n.b). We quote : Prime Sutherlands, 254 heavy bright sparrowbills, la lljd ; while for ordinary Is lOjd to Is lid. Wheat. — Our home markets do not show up well at tdl just now, but the iutercolonials are well maintained, and a gooii few li> es are changing \ hands for shipment; prices, however, are not nearly j co firm as they were. The north in supplying local ; requirements at about 2d per bU9hel under recent ' quotations. ' Barley.— The market for this has a much firmer ' toue, and price 3 north are vrell maintained. We '• sold several large li»e3 recently at quotations. Chaff.— Demand eased off *ud we quote best bright heavy at up to £2 12s 6d. Potatoeß.— For bett kidneys we sold up to £6. — Onr remarks on this in our report of 20th ult. still hold good, and though sales have •taken place at very low rates we see no reason whatever for sucTi sacrifice. Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay prices are from 3s lOri to 5s for undressed seed, or an, advance of fully 9d on last year's, with a short crop. Sales are taking place on the spit at forfarmers' undressed ßumples 2s to 2slod, according to weight, and machine dressed at up to 33 4R
