Saturday's midday quotations :— Big River, 23s to 2<s ; Buller dredge, 6s to 63 6d ; Cumberland, Is to Is Sd ; Dillon Extended, Is to Is 3d ; Exchange, 6a to 9d ; Golden Lead, Is to Is 9d ; Humphrey's Gully (paid up), 183 to 20s ; Inglewood, 9d to Is ; Lyell Creek, Is to Is 3d; Lord Edward, Is % Is 9d ; Keep-it-Dark, 31s to 323 ; No. 2 South ©»rfc, Jr <Jd to Is 9d ; Success, 6d to 9d ; AlpineVtlccizro (paid up), 3* to 4s. Owing to limited fey?*i»«<» U'« above quotations are nominal. Rttvvns.— Buller dredge, 30oz sdwt gold for 132 hours' dredging. Big River. — The mine manager reports having extended the uprise from the surface tunnel 13ft for the week, making the total distance risen 34ft. The reef is 4ft wide, with gold visible, and the ground favourable for rising. The contractors have extended No. 6 level 19ft. The haulage of stone from the surface tunnel up the incline has been commenced, and the engine is working well. Lord Edward. — The mine manager reports :—: — 11 The tunnel has been extended l*sf fc ; ground favourable for driving, and showed plenty of broken quartz but no gold. The present contract 'will fe finished when a further distance of 12ft has been driven." January 25. Further returns :— Keap-it-Dark, 1440z amalgam from 74 tons-; Sir Ifrancis Drake, 90oz amalgam from 90 tons. - Keep-it-Dark. — Tha mine manager reports :—: — *' We resumed permanent work on Monday. The naußing wall appears inclined to come over a little more than usual, and the ground is well-filled up. The sinking is a little batter in the shaft, and 12ft have been timbered. Out of 192 tons of »torie aent to the battery, 74 tons were crushed. The paddock and repairs to battery will be finished next (this) week. The frame for tho sew waterwheel is completed, and the centres are all ready be put in position." No. 2 Dark;— The lev«l has been extended 6ft for the week. Part of the week was spent in Binking No. 3 level, north of the crosscut. Six feet was sunk between the two sets of timber, with quartz in the hanging wall from eight to 12 inches thick, and carrying gold. The manager thinks it advisable to sink a winze to prove what the stone is. The total distance driven from the crosscut is 470 ft. Hercules.— The battery started crushing on Monday, and judging by the appearance of the plates the quality of the stone is about the same as last month. Seventy-seven tons of stone were sentto the battery la*t week. The size of the reef ia still about the same, but the stone in the south end stope pi omises to be more solid. From present stope to level No. 9 the crosscut has been extended 6ft. Driving is very slow through the hard -grey sandstone bar, but a change may take place any time.
