THE KISHM DISASTER.
TERRIBLE LOSS OF LIFE. Cabdl, January 20. A terrible earthquake was experienced at Kishm, a town in Afghanistan. An | enormous number of persons perished. Constantinople, January 22. Particulars of the earthquake at Kishm show that there were three distinct shocks. Two thousand five hundred people perished. [Kishm, or Kiehmn, an island of the Persian Gulf, near the Strait of Ormuz, is tiurrouuded by a reef of coral, t»ml ha* r rich, productive soil, though fresh water is deficient. It produces cotton, the vine, wheat, dates, »nd other : fruits, and hits a valuable jpearl fishery. Large flocks of sheep and herds of cattle are reared.' The town of Kiflbma. on this east end of the island, Ins a good harbour. Population of tbe island, 15,000 ; of tha towa, 4000.]
