OBITUARY.

Sydney, September 10. Mr Charles O'Hara Smith, the well-known auditor of the New Zealand Lands department, who arrived here recently on a trip for the benefit of his health, died at Bathurst this morning. (Fhom Our Owk Correspondent.) Wellington, September 10. Mr O'Hara Smith, whose death in New South Wales is announced to-day, waa chief auditor of the New Zealand Lands and Revenue department. The cause of his death -was consumption, which, it is seated, arose in the first instance from a cold caught while Mr Smith was taking rowing exorcise. He had gone to New South Wales on leave for r change of air. The late Mr Smith, who was 42 years of age, joined the Treasury department in 1873 and was transferred to tbe Audit department in 1879. In 1892 he was promoted to the position of chief auditor of the Land Revenue department, and he* retained the appointment until his death. He w'cs a first-class o^xsasan, a. volunteer, and a Freemason.'
