STEWART ISLAND.
Half Moon Bay, August 4 —On Wednesday before last it came on to blow iv the evening from the east, with a heavy sea rolling into the bay. On Thursday morning several boats were found to have come ashore. In Half Moon Bay the Hawk, belonging to Captaiu Scullay, and the Seagull came ashore. The Hawk was smashed up, but the Seagull was saved. A number of boats and dingeys came ashore, some of which were total wreckp. I a Horseshoe Bay the Dolly Varden cutter came ashore, aud there was some hope of getting her off, but in the meantime the steamer fiespitch has failed in an attempt to tow her from her dangerous position. Mr Nelson's fishing boat, which he valued at £40, was also blown on shore, and I am afraid she will be a total loss, being full of sand and halt buried; This is a serious losb for Mr Nelson, who is a veteran of over 80. General sympathy is felt for him. It is reported that the Lucinda is ashore at Codfish Island and that her crew had been rescued by the Kurubau. Last week a whaleboat which was going from Ruapuke to"the-Nouk cavried away her rudder, and capsized off the- island of Tearoe. near the Neck. The accident was seen, and the "Planet promptly put off and rescued tne crew, some of whom were nearly exhausted, having been clinging to the bottom of the boat for, more than 15 minutes. ' ,
