Second Otago Witness Problem Tourney.

For original three-move problems never before published. Prizes, £1 Is and 103 6d ; Solvers 10s 6d. Problems intended for competition may pow be sent in. Not more than two will be accepted from each composer. The competition is for threemove problems only. All problems of which the envelope bears a post mark dated not later than August 31 ensuing will be accepted. The competition is not limited to New Zealand composers, but compositions from abroad will be accepted if received in time. Prizes will be awarded as in the competition just closed. Solvers will be awarded 3 points for correct solutions, 3. points for a " cook," (of which only one in each problem will be credited), and '5 points for proof that the problem is not original or has been already published. Problems intended for competition must be clearly diagrammed, and the position given in the Forsyth notation- also. Full solutions must accompany the problems. All problems sent in will be published in the order In which they are received. Solvers are invited to forward criticisms on the p-oblems, which criticisms will also be published. Each problem must be distinguished by a motto, and the composer's name forwarded in a sealed envelope, not to be opened until after adjudication. Competent judges will be appointed to determine the relative merits of the competing problems, but solvers are also invited to indicate their opinions of the merits of competing problems by awarding marks, of which 10 points may be taken as the maximum.
