THE ASSOCIATION GAME.

J.HU ACOUUWIJ.IWJ.I VTO.UJUUI. The Morningfcon met tho Queen's Park on the Reolaimed ground on Saturday. The Park immediately rushed the ball down to their opponents' goal, but Dobson, with a big kick, ■ gent it back again, and mid-field was the scene 'of operations for a while. The Mornington, however, with the wind in their favour, steadily worked the ball down the Queen's Park goal, and Waby was repeatedly called upon ,to save. Sprapgon finally shifted play to the cantre by a couple of fine kicks, but it was quickly back again, aud from a fierce scrimmage in front of the Park goal, Payne kicked the leather through. This nettled their opponents, and a grand combined rush of the forwards ended with J. Haynes shooting a splendid goal. Gregory kicked off, and Morningtou continued to pres3, but were unable td" break Waby's splendid defence. On resuming,. it was evident the Park intended to make full use of the wind, whioh was now in their favour, for they immediately began to press, and A. Hayes, with a fine shot, placed the Becoud goal to their credit. The Pfttk at once assumed the offensive, and Gregory had a lively time of- it, acquitting himself creditably. M 'Donald, however, .eventu- ■ ally beat him. This woke Mornington up, and they ruined the ball up to the Queen's Patk goal, putting in shot after shot, but the goalkeeper proved too much for them, time being called with the score standing i Queen's Park... 3 goals Mornington ... 1 goal The Ringers First met the Zealandia First on the Exhibition ground. Peters, winning the toss, elected to play with the wind (which was blowing strongly), and the Zealaudia kicked off. The Rangera soon put their opponents on the defensive, and got their first goal very shortly after the commencement of the game. The Zealandia then started some good rashes, but play soon settled again near the Reds' goal, and ccc half time the Rangers had ' 4 goals to their credit ; Harrop scoring 2, and Peters and Jarvie 1 eaoh. With the wind in their favour the Zealandia ought to have made it hot for the Blacks, but such was not to be the cate, the spell being taken up with play of a give-andttake nature. For the Zealandia, Simons, Lichtenstein, L. Hutton, and Churotiill' played well. Mr Nicolson made a good referee, his decisions being taken well by both sides. Scores : Rangers... . ... 4 goals, Zealandia .* Ml The Association match Roslyn v. Northern was played on the Northern's griuud; which was in a very muddy condition. The Roslyn, playing in the first spell with the wind at their backs, soon had. the Northern in difficulties, aud succeeded in shooting three goals in quick succession. After this the Northern seemed to lose all heart and the first gpell ended in Roslyn having a lead of eight goals. , It was thought that the Northern, with the strong wind at their backs, would give the Hill team a hard fight in the second spell ; but it was not so, for as toon as tho ball was Bet in motion the Roslyn forwards, by some fine passing rushes, succeeded in adding six more goals to their score, and the game ended in favour of the Roslyn by the large score of 14 goals to nothing. The forwards, one and all, played a hard game from start to finish, and all had a share in the scoring, but P. and D: M'Millan were the most conspicuous. In the back division, G. M'Millan, Dobson, and Hayward were the best, Ellis, in goal, had little 6r nothing to do. The Northern were altogether off oolour, but Clark and M'Laughlin were the best of them. Mr H, G. Siedeberg acted as referee. Scores : Roslyn , 14 goals Northern ... Nil Mornington Second won their match against Qnecn's Park Second by default, the latter taming up half an hour late with only seven men. A scratch nmtoh, however, was played between teams chosen by Kodger and Scoular, the former's side proving victorious after a hard game by 2 goals to 1. The Queen's Park Second defeated the Mornington Second by 2 goals to 1. The game was very fast at times, the combination of the Queen's 1 Park being splendid. For the winners the following played well : Clark, Mill, Kirkwood, Millar, and M' Bride. The mutch between tbe Northern Second v. Roslyn Seoond resulted, after a fast and exciting game, in a win for the Northern by 2 goals to 1. The Northern played a splendid game, shooting with -great judgment. The Roslyn, though they played hard, could not break through the Northern's backs. For the winners they all played well, as did Brickell, Turner, Brown, Wright, and Cilder for tbe Roslyn. Mr D. Beafch acted as referee, giving great satisfaction to both sides.
