The flag fell to an excellent start. St. Ange on the right made running from Fiesole, Helm, and Ardvourlie. the Galop filly and Thais on the extreme left. The second division was composed of Amphora, Omladina, Santa Maura, Jolly Boat, and Serfdom, and Flitters, wide on the right, soon whipped in behind Miss Fraser, Burgonet, and Barndance. . Before reachiDg the Bushes St. Ange was in difficulties, and on the top of the hiUXbau
had assumed the command from Jolly Boat, the Galop filly, and Santa Maura, and these were now clear of Ardvourlie, Helm, Serfdom, Miss Fraser, and Omladina, who had previously lost the companionship of Amphora. The fate of Omladina was soon afterwards soaled, and as she fell away Serfdom, Helm, Ardvourlie, and Mis* Fraser also h )isted signals of distress. The issue was now confined to a quartet, ancl in leaving the Abingdon mile bottom Sauta Maura became second to Thais, with Jolly Boat aud the Galop filly hanging to their quarters, For the re rainder of the journey the race was contested in tho keenest possible fashion, «nd Thai* just squeezed home by a head from Santa Maura, with Jolly Boat third at an interval of three-parts of a leugth. The Galop filly was a head behind fourth, Helm fifth, Miss Fraser sixfch, Seifdom seventh, St. Ance eighth, Snowy Corrie ninth, Burpronet tenth, and Flitters tailed off. Time, lmin 46iseo.
