It is contemplated to establish a board for this purpose. The Gore Standard reports that Mr James Caldwell, of Wendon Valley, met with a very serious accident on Friday evening at about 7.30 o'clock. He was on horseback, and was galloping aloDg, with another gentleman, from Waikaka township towards his house. Turning a sharp corner of the road near the township, his horse ran with great force into the trap of Mr Edward Roberts, mailman, which the horsemen could not see until they were close ! upon it. Caldwell called out to his friend to take care, but his own horse struok the trap, and turned almost a complete somersault, Oaldwell was thrown heavily to the ground, presumably on to his head. He was rendered unconscious immediately, and was taken to the house of Mr M'Kenzie, clo c to where the acoident occurred. When Dr Donaldson, of Gore, attended to him, it was found that he had sustained concussion of the brain. Mr John M'Lean, of the W»ikaka Hotel, conveyed Caldwell to Grove, and he was afterwards taken to the Inveroargill .Hospital by Constable Ferguson. He was unconscious on Monday evening, but his condition had improved somewhat.
