THE LABOUR MARKET.

Mr Skene reports under date June 30:— The, cloaiug month has been a fairly bußy .one, except during the last week, which slackened off with ■''the b<& weather. But for all that we are getting thiough the winter bravely. Country work on farmi and stations is healthy, and couples, ploughmen, lads, and boys are in steady demand ; but gardeners have a poor show uowadays, so few are able to indulge in first-class gardeners or coachmen. Rabbit poisoners are now in full swing, but cheques are reported poor. Wages for experienced country wotkers keep satisfactory, but of course we shall have grumblers while the world lasts.
