TUTURAU.

June 12.— For about a month past we have had little rain, and at present the weather is frosty. Most of the farmers are busy ploughing and carting turnips, the crop of which I believe is not so good as usual. Amusements.— The first meeting of the local Mutual Improvement Society was held in the schoolhouse on Monday evening last. The President, Mr D. Dickie, gave an able address on mutual improvement in general, the rest of the evening being occupied .with songs, readings, and recitations. It is to be hoped that this institution will boom, as no doubt it will be of great benefit to the young people of the district, by teaching them to spesk in public. Matrimonial.— On Wednesday last Mr A. G. Clement, who has resided in this district for over SO years, and Margaret, only daughter of Mrs A. Brown, late of Knapdale, were united in the bonds of matrimony. The wedding was a quiet one, but it seems that some of the jovial spirits of the district would not allow it to pass unnoticed, as I hear that the happy pair received a spirited, though rather unmusical, serenade at their hands.
