TURNIP COMPETITION.

We have received from the secretary of the Otago Agricultural and Pa&toral Society tbe awards made by Messrs James Smith, jun., and Alexander Douglas, the jud.es appointed to inspeot fche different entries received. Each competitor hed to supply at date of entry the description of the soil, and of previous crop and kind of manure used, &c. It has been decided that these particulars and the comments made by the judges of the different crops be published in the society's annual journal. The j following are the awards : — ! Class I.— For the best ten acre«, or over, of Aberdeen or yellow-fleshed turnips. First prize, two tons of Standard bone manure, value £\o los. presented by Messrs Ninimo f aud .Blair ; second prize, one ton Standard bone in an me, valued £5 O3> presented by Mes'ra Nimmo and Blair. Three entries— Mr W. S. Mosley, 1 ; Mr. William Giey, Milburn, 2. * Class 2.— For tbe be,st 10 acres, or over, of Aberdeen or yellow fleshed turnips, on land teeted with lime only, First pviz3, six tons of best agricultural lime, valued £3 18s ; Fecond pivza, four tons of bsst agricultural lime, v.TTTed £2 12*, presented by the Miiburn Lime aud Cement Company. Three entries— Mr William Grey, 1 ; Mr Walter Blackie, East Taieri, 2. Class 3.— For the best five acres, or under 10 acres of Aberdeen or yellow-fleshed turnips.
