TAPANUI.

June 3.— The annual horse fair was held in Mr Quin's yards on Saturday last. The weather was favourable on the occasion, consequently there was a large turn-out of farmers and others interested. The draught stock was not quite so well represented as on former occasions. There Beemed to be a large number of purchasers present, as the lots offered were readily sold, realising fair average prices. For hacks there seemed to be no demand, as although a number ware offered, few if any 'changed hands. - Evangelistic.— Evangelistic services are now being held in the Wesleyan Church, conducted by MraJone3, from Invercargill. Up to the present the services have been well attended, and the results have been altogether satisfactory. Flour Mill. — Mr Dacker \has 'cornmencd operations in the flouv and oatmejil business. He has gone to great expanse iv having' things put in wurkinif order, and it is to be hoped that he will recsive the patronage he so richly deserved for the eoureg, he has displayed in this venture. Mr Ddckar has a good reputation as a miller, having been employed in that line for a number of years in th>j Waiwera district.

Postal.— Mr Charles Whelan, jun., who has been for some time employed in the local post office, h^s been transferred to Christchurch as cadet. On Tuesday last he took his departure. During his stay here he has gained a large number of friends, who earnestly wish him every success in his new sphere.
