GORE WINTER SHOW.

(Fbok O\jb Special Rbpobtee ) Gobb, May 29. ■The Gore A. and P. Association's fir«t -winter fefcow 'T»M opened to-day in the Town Hall in beßutif ul weather. The attendance has so far been tsat'sfacbory, and there is every reason to believe that the experiment will prove a financial success. The display is highly credit'ftble, and the arrangements have been carefully thought out by the committee and the indefatigable secretary (Mr Dewar). The jurlgiug was done in the morning. About 3.30 brief addresses were given by Mr J. B. Miller (president) and the Mayor (Mr D. L. Foppflwell). In addition to the displays of cheese and butter, grain, grass seed, potatoes, ro ts &c , there are exhibits of honey, beeswax, jmns and jellies, home-made wines, fruit, flowers, homemade brea<3, enticing-looking scones and oatcakes, eggs, hams and bacon, and dressed poultry. Then th«r« is a monster cheeae, made by the Wyndbam Fa; tory for the society. Ib is disappointing to fiud bo entry by farmers for the best display of farm produce, for it seems to indicate that most of them place their egg» in too few baskets. Mesars Tothill, Watson, and Co. exhibit a variety of manures. There is also a trophy of mangolds, turnips, and carrots, .grown by tha use of the Islington manure, the manufacturers of which supplied manure to seven "first prize-takers, and a display by the MaUnra paper mills. Others who have stands are : The National Mortgage and Agency Company, Gore Meat Preserving Company, B. Lloyd and Co., R. and P. Wallis, J G. Ward and Co., Tothill, Wntson, and Co., A. J. Gibbs, S.Collett, S. G. Inder, nnd the Moira studio. Afew .agricultural implements -are shown 'on a vaoat t section opposite the hall. A dog trial wan held in a paddock dote to the towt.ship, and will be concluded to-morrow. The show urill also be' continued to-morrow. The f ollowis the principal portion of the prize list : —

During the afternoon the delegates from the various dairy factories in Southland met Mr J. R Scott, 'the necretary to National Dairy Association, to consider the proposals in the. circular is mod by the association. After Mr Scott had replied to a number of questions, the various proposals were commended to the favourable consideration of the delegates to the Dairy Convention to be held in Dunedin on the °9th June. Considerable enthusiasm was shown by the delegates, and the general feeling was in favour of supporting and strengthening the National Dairy Association.
