The appointment of Mr Roberb Pitcaibhly as United States consular agent at Cbristchurch, vice Mr Albert Cuff resigned, is provisionally recognised. Walter Edward Gudgeon is appointed judge of the Native Land Court and judge of the Validation Court. Messrs James M'Kerrow and S. Peroy Smith and Majorgeneral Shaw have bees elected governors of tha New Zealand Institute. Daring the month of October the arrivals in the colony numbered 1487 and the departures 1063. The rainfall for last month shows — Auckland, 3 79in; Wellington, VOSin ; Dunedip, 3*24 in ; Christ church, not supplied. Invercargill showed the heaviest rainfall — viz., 10*13 in.

In New South Wales the royalties on coal, in addition to annual rentals, paid in 1892 were £8953 10s sd; 1893, £13,810; 1894, £12,930 18s Bd. The Italian warship took 220 tons of Westport coal from Wellington, and made arrangements to get farther supplies at Auckland and Fiji.
