THE LIBERATOR FRAUDS.

TRIAL OF JABEZ BALFOUR AND HIS COLLEAGUES. London, November 21. Jabez Balfonr has been found guilty on the first charge of embezzlement. Sentence was postponed. All tbe accused in the charges arising out of the Liberator Building Society frauds were found guilty with the exception of Dibley, in whose case the jury were unable to agree. The charges on which Jabez Balfour, JBrock, and Theobold have been found guilty are in connection with land allotments, false reports, and cooked balance sheets. The defence was that tbe values had to be altered owing to the depression in trade. Five other charges have yet to be heard.

At a competition by tbe Petone Rifle Club at Wellington, on Saturday W. H. Ballinger, the .present champion, made the record score for New Zealand at 200, 500, and 600 yards, of 100 out of a possible 105. His totals were : 33, 33, 34-. He used Whitney's colonial ammunition of 1895.
