Holmes ; dairy produce, Mirs M'ggie Morton, Second Day, November 22. The thirty-second annual show of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association was unfortunately au absolu L e failure from a financial point of view, and this fact is entirely due to the excessively inclement weather which prevailed. To - day — the eecrmd day — the rain fell in unceasing torrents. Ou no rhow day during the last 20 je.u's has there been such weather, while Chimuru residents state that the downfall was the heaviest daring the last 20 years. Under thaae circumstance*, therefore, it is not surprising that the "people" were conspicuous by their absence on the second day. The country trains brought in very few, and altogether the result of the show must end in a fce»vy loss to the association. Suggestions have been made in the direction oE holding a winter ahow to compensate for the poor display on this occasion, and probably the matter will receive the consideration of the committee. To - day the judging in draught borses was continued. The class as a whole was fair, bub competition was not keen. Mr Thomas Mee's four-j ear-old entire Lord Lyon carried off. first and champion prize. He ia a well - known horse in the southern di'trictß, pofs°Baing many splendid qualities and altogether a stylish animal. The Hon. Mr Holmes carried off first prize amongst the two-year-o'd colts with a well-balanced animal, but none of the yeiriing colts were seen to advantage. Mr'K. B Ferguson'B three-year-o'cl filly carrying off first prize and champion honours is an exceptionally fine animal, and won hi tako a prominent place am'where. Owing to the wretched ttate of the weather none of Mr Menlove's shorthorn cattle put in an appearance. Tbe Polled Angus were judged in the shedfl. The whole clasi was nwle up of animals shown by the N Z. and A.L. Company, and some of them were splendid animal*. A protest wan entered againat the winner of the flrsb piiza in the fancy butter competition on the grounds that the dond'tions were not adhered to. Messrs Fletcher, Humphreys, snd Co., of Chrifitchurch, exhibited a quantity of their "Golden Apple" brand of cider, which was freely sampled, and in view of the fact that a prohibition regime existed at the show, the pleasant beverage was greatly appreciated.
