THE WANGANUI SHOW . Wanganui November 21

The Wanganui A. and P. Society was not favoured with the best of weather for their annual show, but neveitheless there was a good attendance. Although the entries of sheep and cattle were not quite so numerous as on the previous 3 cm, the other classes were somewhat better. Among tho horses were some of tha bsst spec' men; of draughts on thecoasb, and the coaching class were also excellent. Mr R. Rosa (Wanganui) secured the champion prize for his ■ bay horse Megaphone, and Mr D. Grant (of Palmers ton North) obtained the draught entire championship with Clyde vale Hero. In cattle Mr A. A. Stantham was again successful with his Shorthorn exhibits, and for the second time won the handsome cup presented by the Sunlight Soap Company, which now becomes hia permanent property. The fine entry of Jersey cattle was one of the features of the show. Among the sheep classes, the most successful exhibitor of Lincolns was Mr W. Wilson ; Mi T. Thatcher scored most in crossbreds, and in the other classes Messrs A. and O. Burnett, J. M'Gcegor, and J. B. Murray were most prominent. Among the visitors were the Hon. the Premier and Mrs Seddon, the Hon. J. Carroll, and many well-known settlers from other parta of the colony.

The sucoes3 of the Waimate Agricultural and Pastoral Association's show, wbich took place on the 19bh, was considerably marred by heavy thunder showers, though the coaniry will benefit by the rain. The speed of electricity is estimated to be 180,000 miles per second. It is calculated it would take about eight minutes for a telegraph message to reach the sun, something like three years to reach the nearest fixed star, and if the birth of Christ had been telegraphed immediately on its occurrence to one of the stars in the Milky Way, the message, although bounding along at the above incomprehensible speed, would not yet have reached its destination.
