CYCLING CARNIVAL AT SIDNEY. Sydney, November 23.

At the cycling carnival the weather threatened, and a light shower or two fell. The attendance was even larger than on last Saturday. Zimmerman was taken ill on Friday night, and his doctor ordered him not to ride, yet he persisted in assisting at the meeting, but had to retire after covering three laps in the Championship Race, which was a great disappointment to the public. The league, in recognition of his pluck, gave him LIOO extra as a share of the enormous financial sneoess of the meeting, and also donated L 25 to the Italian rider Porta, who had the misfortune to break his arm. A similar sum was given to Martin, the American, in recognition of bis fine display in the Metropolitan Raca. The following are the results: — Five milk Championship of New South ■\V ales.— Parsons 1, Lawis 2, Iredale 3. Thirteen riders started, and all but the placed men and Megson fell out completely beaten before two miles had been covered, and the latter fell out soon after the two miles were completed. Lewis led to within a lap from home, when Parsons came with a great rush and won by a dozen yards. Iredale was badly beaten. Time, 12min 16tuec, which is a record for the ground. The winner recived a great ovation. As already stated, Zimmerman started, but being ill had to retire. Lkague Cup.— Poole (Victoria). 70yds, 1; Moore (Newcastle), (55yds, 2 ; Harkness, 60yds, 3. Time, 2min 21£ sec. Martin rode a splendid race. He covered the last half mile in limn Ssez, and the three-quarter mile in lmin 45ssec. * Meadham also won the Three-mile Open Handicap in 7min 42fsec. At the payiDg over of the prfz<3-money Zimmerman stated that his half-mile win last Saturday was the hardest race he ever rode. He also said he bad never been treated anywhere with such generosity as he had in the colonies.
