LAND AND WATER.

At a well-attended meeting at the Waihola Schoolroom on Saturday evening, at which Mr A. Sax'ou presided, ifc was decided to form a Waihola Caledonian Society, and to hold sports some time about the New Year, probably Boxiug Day. Mr J. Allen, M H.R., was elected president, and Messrs A. Lee Smith, A. Saxton, W. Palmer, and G. Gray vice-presidents. A strong representative commiltae of 11, with power to add to their numbar, was appointed, and met on Tuesday evening to draw up a programme and transact other business. As it is net intended to r old sports at Milburn this year, and as Waihoia is the centre of a -large district, a large attendance is anticipated. The Glasgow Evening Times, referring to the proposed visit of a team of Scotch bowlera to Australia, speaks as follows : — " Now, then, who's for a trip to the antipodes ? President Brownlie, Queen's Park, is the recipient of a letter from the president of the Wavjjrley Bowling Club of Sydney, cordially inviting a team from Scotland to play a series of matches in Australia. Captain Mulholland, of the Waverley Club, when in Scotland recently, was much impressed with the kindliness shown him on the various greens, and on reporting his experiences on his return, his club has taken np bis proposal to invite a team. President Brownlie and Mr Andrew Paterson, of Cathcart, have each signified their willingness to take the tup, end lnve appended their names to the foot of the letter. Should a team venture to go it will be a great innovatiou in bowling,, and a return visit may naturally ba expected. From personal knowledge of some of the greens in the sunny south, I can guarantee the visitors some splendid play, but as the turf is much stronger and coarser, I would suggest that they take with them wider bowls than they play with hero. My suggestion is borne out by ope of the makers here, who a year ago supplied a club with bowla •of No. 3 bias, and several weeks ago he got the. ordtfj tV Beatedj but with a bia3 of No. 4. 1 *
