The drawback to the game in Southland is not 4he lack of will or enthusiasm in the game, but simply the unpr* pitious gods, who seem te have set their face against the pastime. Burncs ecorei S3 out of the total by dashing cricket, but the remaining members of the team failed badly. Wilr-on, for the Bluff, got six wickets for 14, and batted well. . Slar B matches— was Bimply drowned, and cricket nlso. The matches will, how.ever, with permission of the clerk of the weather, be .commenced .on the 27vh. The match High School v. Central School needs little comment— the former 7 russ, the latter 6 runs. Orepuki v. Riverton resulted in a win for the former by 49. Scores: Orepuki, 76; Rivcrton, 27. Dr Fox, for the victor?, ran up 53 in his wonted Btvle. lonic v. Gladsto-e was won by the former, the scores being 81 to 59. Forster (20V Ferguson (19). Tapper (10) contributed to the former's score, and Eorgan (the son of a good old cricketer, 30) and C. Ueily (11) to the Gladstone total. The Wycdham Cricket Club were willing to visit Gore and pl*y a match to-day, hut the acting secretary of the Gore C.U. had to inform the former club that there was no cricket club in Gore this leason.
