WEST COAST NEWS.

By Totara.

November 18. The West Coast clubs are to be congratulated on the large number of entries that they have re 1 ceiTed, and it only remains for the various weight adjusters to bring the horses well together to have large fields. As the public are already taking *n active interest in the forthcoming race meetings, a short resume' of the different training stables on the West Coast will not be out of placo on my part. At Reefton, E. Griffen has Geraint, Nile, Gloire de Dijon, England' 3 Pride, Gloaming, Jacob Faithful, and Regalia in strong work. Geraint went a little sore last week, but now seems to be moving freely again. England's Pride has been showing very much improved form on the track, and it only remains for this horse to run kindly to place a few winning brackets to Mr Richardson's credit. |- Jacob Faithful is goißg along gaily, and should he ■ return to his old dash of» pace he will make the hurdle races particularly interesting to his opponents. Regalia is looking and going well. Nile (by Nelson— dam Florence) is doing a great amount of solid work, and will appear a very much improved horse this season. Gloire de Dijon i 3 a recent importation from the North Island, whero her performances were of a mediocre character. Gloaming is an aired mare by Betrayer, but as yet haa not done anything worthy of her sire. &fr Richardson has Duchess of Norfolk going alone; nicely MrT. O'Neill has in work Epilogue and Florin, both doing well. Epilogue is a full sister t« Royal Rose and shows a great amount of pacet

Mr O'Neill will be nnlucky if this mare does not increase his banking account. Florin iaby Chainshot- dam Dollar. At Alwura Mr John Kennedys Orawley and Ahaura him looking well. Crawley Is not Deing hurried in his preparation, Mr Kennedy preferring to give bin leg plenty of time, but his brilliant pace ought to stand to him in the short roces without much work. Ahaura has been tried at the jumping business and, so far, shapes B& At a Grcymouth J. W. Scott has Portland, Langley the Devil, and Silver Rose in charge. Portland is a fine, big, upstanding black colt, four years old, by British Lion, resembling his sire very much. He ought to be tho makings of a •good stomp of a stesplechaser. I understand that it is not ihe intention of the owner to rac« him over fences this season, but to give him more time. He is looking really well and already bhows a f»ir amount of pace on the track. Langley the Devil is bowling along in good etyle and will strip jveiy fit on the day. Silver Roee lojks well, but is veiy flighty on the course. W. Mitchell has Puinscttia and Kalmea in charge, but they do not appear to be doing as much work *s the other horses on the track. Mr W. Clanghesy superintends himself the training operations of his finf-looking colt Home P.ule. This c.ilt has plonty of pace and seems to stay fairly well, but has been singularly unfortunate, something always happening to him Just at race time. It is to bo hoped that Dame Fortune will smile on Mv Clsnshesy this season. A. Doran has Mr Lutz"s pair in work, Hans and The Orphan, the latter -being by Exchange from Lady Blantyre. U. Htuart is doing slow work with the Chaiush >t— KOO3 filly with a view to the produce races. G. Otborne has Johnny Martin in hand. I presume his mis-ion will bs tho hack races. Rumour hath it that an interest in Gtraint has .been disposed of to a eport3man In Hokitika. The horee is to remain in Griffin's hands to complete his toilet. I hear that Mr J. Boyd. of Greyiaouth, has purchased Gold Cup, a half sister to Banner and Ben Vnrrey. Tbe price is stated to be 50gs. She is expected to arrive from Wanganui very Bhortly Mr J. Geiseking's Banner is being tramed at Riccaitoß by K. Rodeu. I understand if the weights suit he will be shipped back to Greymouth to attend the Coast meetings. It is to be toped Mr Geiseking will have better luck on the Const than he h»d at the late C.J.C meeting. Mr P. M'lnnery, of Bunner, purchased Minerva for 29ga at Tattersall's. Christchurch, and *he is expected to arrive shortly. The complete list of nominations for the Coast sueetings will be found in another column.
