Napieb, October 10. The A. and P. Society's show was opened to-day. There was OD'ly one exhibitor in merinos. In Lincolns Mr Tanner took both championships, minor honours being divided between tho Hon. J D. Ormond and Mr J. N. Williams. Locally-bred sheep generally beat imported stock, but the stock bred by tho Hon. M. Holmes and Mr F. Button secured prizes. Border-Leicester were in force, Mr W. Nelson securing both championships— one with an animal bred by Mr J. Reid,-the Hon. M. Holmes's stock fceiog aleo successful. Both English Leicester championships fell to Mr Tanner with impoited sheep, the ram being the champion at the Royal Agricultural show, Cheater, in 1893. Mr H. Overton's stock were very successful. Romneya were very numerous, the chief honours being divided between Messrs R. Harding and T. Hutchison's with locally-bred cheap. Shropshire* were very poorly represeated. A great feature of the show was the large number of pens of 20 sheep competing for the prizes for the most profitable crossbred, both carcass aod wool being valued. The decision will ba given to-morrow. The champion prize for thoroughbred entire fell to tho Hon. Mr Ormond's

Dreadnought, and for the ohampion draught to Mr Archibald Willums'B Kimbarley. The exhibits of machinery are numerous, all the ■well-known colonial manufacturers being well represented. October 11. At the A. »nd P. show to-day exceptional interest wa« centred in the contest for pen* of 20 sheep, any breed, to compete for the society's special prizes for the must profitable iheep. The judging was by points, the maximum bting-25 for weight of wool, 26 value of fleece, 15 quality of mutton, 15 early maturity, 10 symmetry, and 10 weight. Generally speaking the Lincolns and crosses did beit iv wool, but poorly in po'nfcs for mutton. Leicester and ftomney crowes with Lincolns loat very little ia wool, but gained much iocarcase. The piiza pen wa» croisbred Shropshire and Lincoln twotoothi, shown by Captain Ruisell, which made 90$ points, scoriog the maximum for quality, early maturity, symmetry, and 2l£ for value of' fleece. Another pen of four-tooth, exactly the same brosd, however, took a low position, indicating that though the cross was valuable for lambs for freezing it is not j adapted for flock purposes. The second priza ■went to a pen of Mr Douglas M'Leau's fourtooth first Lincoln-merino cro*s, making 83 .points, but the two-tooths of this orose were .few on the list. The third priza was secured ,by Mr. J. N. Williams for a Border LeicesterXincoln cross, two-tooth, mak'ng 82£. The (Champion prize for thoroughbreds went to Mr Ormond's Dreadnought, and for draughts to Mr J. N. Witliams's Topaz. Shorthorns were strong and very fi»»e. The champion bull was Bolinda Duku Ot Derrimen XLi, imported by Mr M 'Hardy. A young bull by the champion also showed magnificent quality. The ohampion cow waa a beauty, bred by Mr M'Hardy. Other breeds' were almost unrepresented.
