LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Lind Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs W. Dallas (in the chair), U. Clark, J. Duncan, and A. M'Kerrow. Cromwell —Consideration of a report by Ranger Mackenzie upon Mr Thomas M'Mligott's application for about 400 acres, situate west of section 7, block I, section 1, block 11, and section 24, blook 111, Cromwell district, was deferred for a fortnight. Dart River.— Messrs Grant and Valpy were granted woodcutters' lioenses for three years over five acrei in the Dart river district, and Mr Charles Forsyth was granted a license over three acr«6 for two years— in each casa at £1 per aore. Maniototo.— The Undersecretary for : Lands forwardad an application from the Taieri Lake Domain Board to have section 18, block XI, Maniototo district, made part of the Taieri Lake Domain, and it was agreed to recommend that the ajpplicaFion be granted. Anapplication kyMrS. K. M'Oartby, on behalf of Mr James Brown, for a liccme to occupy five acres iv the township reserve adjoining section 17, block VII, Upper Taieri district, was declined. Maerbwhenua.— Sections 28. 29, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36. 37, and 38, block V, Maerewhenua dibtrict, not having been applied for, it was referred by the board to Ranf«r Hughan to report as to how the sections mentioned should now be dealt with Naseby.— A letter was read from Mr John M'Kay asking that a reduction be made in the rental of sections 8, 9, and 12, block X, Naseby district, held by him under perpetual leaie.— The board had no power to reduce the rental, but decided to inform the applicant that it would be prepared to favourably consider the question of surrender. Rock and Pillar.— On the suggestion of .Dis-trict-surveyor Calder. who found it was necessary to subdivide the section, the board agreed that section 17, block I, Rock and Pillar, bhould not be dealt with at present Mr Chalmer applied, on bahalf of Mr Thomas Crnghton; to have the lease over section 53, block VII, Rock and Pillar district, issued in the name of Mrs Craighton, and aleo to have section 56 included in the lease, and the board complied with the request, fixing the capital value of section 63 at 21s lOd per acre. Upper Taieri.— An application by Mr Richard Kinsman for toction 21, block IV, Upper Taieri district, was referred to the chief surveyor for a report. A renewed application from Messrs J. Dwyer and Owen Cambridge for a grazing license over the mining reserve adjoining section 17, block VII, Upper Talori, was referred to the chief survoyor to procure a report from the district surveyor. An amended vluation of the improvements upon section 19, block IV, Upper Taieri district, was forwarded by Dutrict-survevor Caldor, and the valuation was reduced by the bo*rd to £2. A letter from Mr C. Dyke regarding sections 17 and 18, block VII, Upper Taieri district, having been considered, the board re? olved that the sections be grouped and granted to Mr Dyke at a capital value of 183 9d per acre.

Sirros.— The leases of the following village homestead selectors in block IV, Kutton district, who had been given an extent ion of six months within which to comply with the residence conditions, but were reported as having failed to do go, were forfeited, and the ranger was instructed to value the improvements :- John EMe, section 51 ; William Moynihan, section 57 ; D. M. Fit her, section 01 ; Adam Cullon, stctiou 62 ; Alexander Moynihan, section Akatore —Ranger Hughan having reported upon Mr John Kiuloch's npplication fur a grazing right over (section 24, block I, Akatore district, the application was declined. Applications Granted.— The following applications received the approval of the board :— For rural land on leaee in perpetuity— John Baxter, section 9, block XIII, Rinm district; James Riddett, section lb" block IV, Glenkemch. To transfer holdinfis— S. A. Tiue3dale to Alexander Truesdale, lease in perpetuity of section fl, block 111, Lauder ; James M'Atamney to George Noonc, perpetual lease of section 25, blcck 111, Poolburn ; Margaret Ann Murdoch to George Dcvenney, perpetual lease of section 8. block I, Maniototo. To complete purchase of defeired payment land— Wm. Johnstone, section 4, block VIII, Catlins. To exchange deferred payment license for lease in perpetuity — Henry Tobin, Bection 3, block IX, Tarras district. l

Waipori.— Ranger Huchan reported upon Mr Robert Cotton's application for a grazing liceusa over sections 13, 14, and 16 to 19, block IV, Waipori di«trict.— Considerai ion was deferred. Silver Peak —An application by Messrs D. Reid and Co., on behalf of Mr Robert Gibson, for permission to surrender his pastoral license over sect'on 1, block 111, Silver Peak district, was referred to the ranger to report. Glenomahu. —Mr G. Gosden lequested the board tn reconsider its decision with regard to section 33, block VI, Olenomaru district.— Th'j bonnl duferred consideration of the matter. Greenvale —An application for exemption from compliance with the residence condition of her village homestead holding was made by Annie Ourrie, selector of section 47, block IV, Green vale distilct.— Exemption was granted during the time the selector resides with her brother on the adjoining section. Glenkenich.— An application by Mr John Russell to purchase section 25, block V, Glenkenich distriot, held by him under perpetual leaee, was declined.

St. Bathans.— Consideration of an application by Mr Thomas Griffiths for an occupation loaao

Ra.nkleburn.— The board agreed, on Mr R. M'Leod's application, that on condition of the reutal being paid and improvements boing effected within thieo month*, the forfeiture of the porpctual lease and occupation with right or purchase HcenEe over sections 9 and 21, block VI, Raukleburn, would be rescinded.

According to the Cromwell Argus Mr Robert Gllkison, of Clyde, iB likely to bscome a candidate for the Tuapeka electorate at the next general election. With reference to the paragraph in our last issue taken from the Tuapeka Times about the Waikouaiti cleofcorata, Mr Green denies that he hag any intention not to stand for the constituency at next election.
