This company havo made a similar return in previous yearp, and the information thus supplied aff • rds a standard by w hich to watch fhe progrts* of the colony* productions in auy direction, as well as the points iv our export trvde whu'e a weakness or decline h«s beon shown. During the 12 months preceding the 30th of June last there were 62 sailin? vessels of 63,639 tour, and 68 steamers of 308,921 toDs, engaged ia our export trad>, thus aggregating 130 vessels of all elapses of 370 560 tons. As will be seeu in the following figures, there is a large inert a c e iv tome of the branches of trade, while in ethers there is a substantial decrease ; jd the export of wheat, &c, the decrease ia very large iu^esd. In the butter trade, too, there is a substantial decrease, while the majority of settlers no doubt regard this as an increasing brai.ch of export. Kauri gum aho shows a subi-tantial decrease, while the export of flux is, as might be expected, owing to the low price ruling for this fibre, le's than half what it was the previous year. The following are the figures for tha whole c il<>ny for the period named : — Frozen meat, 2,139,677 carcases ; wool, &c , 376,489 bales ; flax, 6617 bales; tullow and pelts, 40,985 r.n.-ks; kauri gum, 32,246 pafkxge*; meats, 44,032 cases ; wheat, &c., 43 602 pack* ; oats. 235 905 ».vka ; grass Betd, 22 043 sacks ; bitter, 3484 tous ; cheot,e, 4254 tons ; sundries, 8318 ton 3. For the sake of affording an easy means of making a comparison, we give the figures for the previous y«ar: — Frozen meat, 1,702,407 carcases ; wool, &c, 387 231 dblp» ; flax, 14,930 bales; tallow and pelts, 33,771 casks ; kauri gum, 34 415 packages ; meats, 35 862 cases; wutat, &c, 237,998 «acks ; oats, 192 654 sacks; giafs t.*t< d, 19 951 facks; bnitf-r, 3938 tons ; chece, 2728 tons ; sundries, 483 biDH. Although the export of wool last year shows a decrease as compared with the previous year of no less than 10,742 b&les, yet the exptrb of fr. z-^n meat increased from 102,144,4201b to 128,380,6U!b; and the item of sundrieß i-hows a very large Increase, being nearly 18 times that of the previous year.
