September 23.— We have enjoyol fairly cnod weather of late, but, oh, what winds ! It has bocu one eteroal blow ! Farm operations are being rushed forward, and, though very much retarded by the late bad weather, much progr.-ss has boeu inaile during the present monta. It has teen a severe winter on stock, and the consequence is that all such are looking rather xntM.'t»ble. Uivs% though backward, it coming on well; much of it is being i!e*'ro}el by fires 1 doubt very much the aivi ability of co much and such indi-criminatj binning, especially during such bhutt-ry wo*tbtr. The *ky all round is illumined every night by these firta. Gardcu plots aie being put into orier, aud trees are budding forth. Fruit trees promite well at present, if the strong winds we aie having Wvuld only abate. We usually have nn abundant fruit harvest after a severe winter. Angling The Rnow is faß r * diaappearing from off the higher mountains, and fortunately our river has behaved itself icmarkably well. We pretty sufe now from floods so far as the snow is concerned, and the augler's hopes are high as to the fine form tho river will be in for iisliiug on the Ut prox. Some beautie.s are already disporting ihrir figures aud inviting the aigler's skill. Dairying.— Our dairy factory seems fated. This month a fresh 6cheme for forjuii-g a company was started, and things went on well for a while. A meeting of the committee elected to work the tliiug up whs held on the 21st inst., when it was found that so many fresh elements ia<3 crept into the argeemodt between them and th« a*jei)t f' r ibe vendor that they had sw it were a difficulty to recognise their own baby, and decided not to adopt any other. Consequently the project wan as;iin abandoned, and some of the fur,iio>H have already -ol<l their cows. <.'<alA.. Oiir bachelors gave a bill on <Le 9ih mot., which proved a mobt successful «ff-iii. It was by invitition, Biid was paiticulaily wi-11 »tten<Jed, and a great siKcess in every way. The management, music, and menu were all that could be desired, nnd reflected great credit on oil concerned. Tkmi'erance —Our Good Templars are keepiug Well to the fore. Their meetiugsaie always made interesting, and are well utteuded They propose giving us a big treat on the 30th intt , in the Bh»pe of a concert and t r a, and are putting forth every effort to make it a success. Amusbmi:nts.— Oui Quadrille Assembly are very much to the fore jet. They meet every Friday, and that they enjoy themselves goes without saying from tho patronage they receive.
