IN CH VALLEY.
AUGUST 13.— One of tho most successful surpr'se parties yet held here came off la ; t evening, when Mr and Mrs Ui.quhart, of the Inch Valley Mills, were "surprised" by a large party of their fnends, young and old. Tables were laid out with pastry, cakes, <Sc, of the choicest description, which were provided by the youcg ladies present. As the number present was too great to admit of dancing in Mr Urquharl's house, an adjournment was made to the schoolhouse, where dancing and parlour games were carried out with great spirit until the "wee sma 'oors." The tnu&ic was supplied by M«.ssis M'Culloch and Tcmplet'jn on the violin and Messrs J. Murray and D. Ingles on the accordeon, the two latter also acting as M.O.'a. Three ringing cheers were given at parting for Mr and Mrs TJrquhart, and all departed delighted, and expressing the wish that ere long they might spend Euch another happy evening.
