Ophir and. Tinkers Notes.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
August 12.— A great many applications for claims, water race?, &c.', were dealt with at the Warden's Court held at Blacks on the 7th inst., showing that mining operations in German Gully (in the vicinity of Black*) are progressing, and as soon as a thaw sets in some good returns will be looked for. An application to mine for coal in the vicinity of Becks was also heard. Should this pit turn out as anticipated it will be the means of considerably reducing the price paid for coals at Tinkers and Ophir, <fee, as at present Cambrians is the neareit coal-producing locality. Mining matters at Tinkers are quiet, the bulk of the claims still being idle on account of the frost. Numbers have expected to get a start for weeks past, but after thawing for a day or two the water would again be frozm up.
