The depo«its during the year 1894 were £2,252.862 6s lid, and the withdrawals £2,268,624 8s 4d. The withdrawals exceeded the deposi-'s by £15,762 Is sd. For the previous year the deposits were £2,386,089 10a 7d and the withdrawals £133,227, or £146,102 lla 8d less than the amount withdrawn last 3 ear. During the first two quarters of 1894 the withdrawals were £88,935 17s lOd in excess of the deposits, but during the last two quarters of the year the deposits exceeded tha withdrawals by £73,173 163 sd. There wo 3an increase of deposits during the firsb quarter of 1895, the total sum deposited amounting to £725,173 13s. The withdrawals were £568,448 3s 6d, so that there was an excess of deposits of no less than £156,825 9a 6d for the quarter, a result believed to be largely due to the reduction of the rate o£ interest on fixed deposits by the banks and other financial institutions.
