DUNEDIN FANCIERS' CLUB SHOW RACE.

The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club having uudertaken the management of the pigeon d/ing race from Oamaru in connection with the Dunedin Fanciers' Club annual show, it is satisfactory to find that their endeavour was a thorough success. The value of the stake was £3 10«, the winner taking a special prizo presented by Me c »rs Young and Anderson. Twenty birds, from 12 lofts, were sUrte 1, all of them arriving home, wh'ch speaks well for the quality of the birds engaged. The weather was very favourable for the fly, with the exception of a slight wind, which was if anything againat the bird). Very goad time was registered for the race, and tho finish proved very close and exciting. The result was as follows: — Mr G. Fraser's Cartridge, bred by Mr J Smith's Bslgi'im strain, secured firet place with a velocity of 1311 yds O.'t sin per minute; Mr J. L. Hay's Nil Desperandum, a creditable second with 1308 yds 2ft 4in per minute ; Mr J R. Hay no's Ocean Spray took third place with 1296 yds lfb llin per minute. The winning birds will be on exhibition at the show on Friday and Saturday evenings, when they are cartaiu to attract a considerable amount of attention as prominent members of the pigeon clasa. The interest taken in the race shows that pigeon flying has taken a firm hold amongst the leading fanciers of Dunedin and surrounding districts.
