JUVENILE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

It is intended to bold a grand juvenile industrial exhibition in the Garmon Hall ia November next, which ' will be open to all acfcool • children and amateurs in and about Dunedin. The exhibition, which is under the patronage of his Excellency the Governor and the CounteßS of Glasgow, ' is being organised by the Trinity Weileyari Church, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the renovation of the church and parsonage. The project is a distinct advance upon what is usually placed before the public when it is desired to raise money for religious or. other purposes, and the promoters are to be commended for the originality of the ide*. The exhibitors' are divided into four sections — viz., under 12 years of age, between 12 and 17, between 17 and 25, and all ages— and competition is invited, amongst other things, for all kinds of painting, drawing, writing, mapping, &c, carving, modelling, and fretwork, collections of seawe d. shells, and various other fchiDgs, sewiug work of all descriptions, cookery from scones to plum-p/uddings. There is a large variety of contests, bofeh vocal aud instrumental, and in the literary branch provision is made for essays on a variety of subjects, a special section being confined to Sunday school work. Amateur photography and impromptu speaking have each a place in the ''schedule, and the various schools are invited to exhibit exercise and copy books, while there is a class for kindergatt9n work. Tnere is also a competition in physical drill for schoolboys, and a prize for the best design of a certificate of award, and, finally, a prize for the best aggregate exhibit from, any school. Altogether the schedule comprises a surprising variety of items, and almost any boy or girl can find one or more subjects in which he or she may compete. The promoters intimate that the objects of the exhibition are to provide pleasant employment and recreation for leisure hours, to develop the skill and inventivp faculties of the young. people, and to provide means for giving the public an opportunity of Feeing the work done in our schools, and generally arousing a deeper interest in that important branch of educational work. All who assist in the exhibition will have the satisfaction of knowing that they not only do something to improve themselves, but they will also be lending a helping hand towards the- object which the committee have in view. Some of the best known ladies and gentlemen in Dunedin have kindly consented to act as judges for the different classes, and, taken altogether, there is reason for the assurance that the enterprise of the committee will be rewarded with &9 success wiiioh, ill co well deserve*. . \
