.vMelbotjbnis,. v Melbotjbnis, July 21. Six men named Thompson, Dawkins, Koeebone, and Burke (married men with familiea) and Crane and Armstrong (single men) were workipg in M'Evoy's mine, El Dorado, when the end of the main drive collapsed through a rnsh of water, and the mine was flooded. The 'men. are believed to be buried beneath a large body of sand. Strenuous efforts are being made to rescue them, but it is considered their case is hopeless. Thirty miners were in the mine when It collapsed. A young man named Fletcher pluckily rushed in and' warned the remainder, who escaped with great difficulty. All hope of rescuing the others alive has been abandoned. It is , supposed that the drive broke through into the old workings, which were filled with water. July 22. Many of the survivors of the El Dorado disaster were knocked down, while nearly all the lights were extinguished, trucks were overthrown, and timbers were blown down by the concussion of air, and a deafening noise was heard at the surface. Some of the men traded almost up to the
neck through the slush in order to reach the main drive. The rushing torrent carried a huge boulder just behind the men, and it stuck at the entranoe to the drive, damming back the flood and enabling the men to esoape.
