DRAUGHTS ITEMS.
The photo and biographical sketch of D. A. Brodio, New Zealand champion, with a selection of games and problems, will appear in the forthcoming book of eminent players, Vol. 11, by Mr L. M. Steams. Deiry, N H., U.S A. Among his games is the Laird and Lady " played between Messrs Bushby and Durgin, which was considered a draw for over £0 years, till Brodie's play, which appeared in Otago Witness, proved it a Black win. The final round of the South Canterbury Tournament was played at Temuka on Friday .evening, and resulted in Sim securing 3 wins, and Stewart 1 win, 2 games being drawn. Mr Sim is therefore first draughts champioa for South Canterbury. The scores made by the nipt three players in the tourney are as follows :— Won. Drawn. Lost. Sim (Temuka) „. 7 5 Stewart (Timaru) 12 8 8 Lee (Temuka) 7 6 8 The first two met three times during the contort, and their scores for these three round? are— Sim 7 wins, Stewart 4 wins, with 5 games drawn.
