Answer to Correspondent.
W. S. X., O Amaru.— Your solution of chess puzzle i« very ingenious, but you will see that it prejupp ses Black to have had more than his noimal number of pieces. To begin with, his k b muse have been taken where it stood by aQ,R, or Xt ; the Q-Kt P has taken one piece, thf Q B Palso one, and the Pat Q Xt 5 must have come from K2, as you say, and must therefore have taken three pieces. Now White's X B P, according to your suggestion, must have got to QB 8. How many piece 3 did it take? .Six of Black's pieces remain on the board, therefore 10 captures (nine only by.pawns) can be allowed. It appears your solution gives Black one man more than hia quota. Doss it not?
