Notes from Hyde.

(From Our Own Cobbespondent.) Hyde, May 6. There h»3 been some excitement in the district within the past few weeks over the rinding of gold about the boundary of 0. G. Trotter's and M. E. Matbeson's boundary fence, near the Taieri liver. There is a small lush there, but no goH of any consequence has yet bfHi found. 'J he general opinion seems to be that the ground v.ould pay well for sluicing if water could be got on to it. Some very fair prospects have been got, those on the surface seeinm* to be as tood in many places as what is got at a lower level. Piendergast, Haley, and party have been granted a cKirn and race, and intend to cut the race from the Taieri river. As yet there has been nothing discovered to justify a rush, butalotof i rosnectors are on the ground. Miv goran and M.Uhewson are Btill bu-y at the <-)eep sinking hriw/u g w.i«h to Ihe surface. There is a g'>ol deal < f work poing on in th'B locality, but I do not hear of any frith finds. Buckland Brothers are sluicing at the old Thive mile working, nnd, I hear, have some good prospect". Nicholson aud Ramsay are sluiciug in the Three-mile creek. I expect to h-ar of the Mount Highlay mine gettiog a stai t shortly. The old work' tigs at Hyde have been receiving some attention lately, and some parties aie driving a short distance below where the old church used to BtauoU

May 13.— 1 liavo not heard of toy of the proa"pectora at the " rush " opposite the railway tunnel having struck payable gold yet, although there have been a good number on the giouuds. Tho old Four-mile workings so*m to have been getting a little attention lately, and. there are a number of pro-pectors driving and sinking in the locality.
