Found Under Hat-lining's.

" You would be surprised to hear of some of the things which we discover beueath the inside bauds of hats l«ffc with us to be renovated," observed a West Eud hatter to the writer the other day. "They seem to make use of their hats as » safe place for things of great importance, and then to forget all about them. 41 For instorce, a few weeks ago a well-known member of Parliament, who was to speak on an impo tant bill, called in here on his way to the Hou c c of ComoQons, bought a new hat, and left the one he waß wearing to be ironed. 41 When, about an hour afterwards, one of our men proceeded to do this, he diVcovered beneath the in«ide band a folded sheet of notepaper, on which was jo.ted down a list of heads of subjects on which the member proposed to speak. 41 1 at once flaw how it wa?, md despatched a messenger with tbe paper to Westminster immediately. When my man airivfld at the House he discovered the honourable member in an awful fright in the lobby, rearching his pockets in vain for the missing paper. Next morning one daily paper observed that Mr was not in such good lorm as ußual in his speech, but seemed somewhat flurrieel. And I didn't wonder at it. " On other occosions we have found stamps in considerable quantities adhering to the inside of the bat, a gold sleeve-link which had somehow hooked itself to the lining, and once we dueovered a twenty-pound Bank of England note folded inside the band of a certain wealthy duke's hat.
