MEETING OP CREDITORS. Re Henry Kirby.
A meeting of creditors in the estate of Henry Kirby, baker, of Kaitangata, was held at the official assignee's office on the 12th hist. The Hon J. MacGregor appeared for the bankrupt, and Mr Galkway for Mews R. Wilson and Co. There was only one creditor present.
The bankrupt's statement showed his liabilities to be £4SB 5* sd, and his assets £.W 10a, there beiue: an apparent deficiency iv the estate of £120 15s sd. The following are the principal unse ured creditors: -R. Wilson and Co., £(H; K. Hudson and Oa, £14; Butterworth Bros, £8; Mills, Dick, and Co , £8 ; Somerville's trustees, £?0 & fid; M'Donald and Miller, £10; Tuaprka Milling Company, £10 10a; Kdward Stewart's trustees (Milton), £7 ; A. E Fivrquhar (Mirtiug), £33: R. M Kiulay (Stirling), £55 10s ; John Butler (B-lclntha), £43 ; P lei* siul Shiels (Balclutha), £7 10s, Davie Bros. (B,Ucluth»), £9 10s ; John Low (B<*Mutha), £9 ; W. Gue«t (B.ilchitha), £H ; IYnn.ll and C<> (Kaitftngat»), £10; w. Ki'by (K.»itanK*t«). £<S ; <J. R. nercuH, £14 ; Dr Fitzgerald (K»itang.it-i). £6 10-i. The total unsecured 'lebts amount to £371 5« Dd.
The only secured creditor, acconiitiff to the statemont, is Peter M'Cill'* truntees (Milton), the amount of whose debt is £420, the entiinated value of tho security b^ing £313 The assets consist of stock in trade at Kaitangata estimated at £126; boon debts, £120 (estimated to produce £100); cash in hand,£l 10s; furniture, £40; sections of land at Kaitangata, valued at £100.
The following written statement by the bankrapt; was read by the asugnee :— " I attribute my insolvency to illness about a year ago. For a few months I was unable to work, and I had to employ two men to fill my place. I then foil behind, and b«fore I could get out of my difficulties two oppouitioa bakers startedin Kaitangata and caused busineae to drop off. Three of my creditors were pushing me, so I was compelled to file to save my estate. Previous to my filing I called a meeting in October, and the cre<htor;> present agreed to take 10s in the pound, but I could not arrange to meet them ; and sinco then Mess-s R. Wilson and Co., Dunedin, demanded their account in full, to I fiL-d." Thn Batikmpt said he did Dot think Messrs R. Wilson and Go. were secured, but the Assignee observed that it appeared from a letter which bankrupt had written to them that they were._ There being no quorum pr sent tho meetiug stands adjourned until to-day.
