ROUGH RIDGE.

October 29.— 1t is not often that the " gentleman in blue " pays a vißit to our district, so when he does vre may be sure that something has gone wrong. His appearance on the scene last Wednea» day was in connection with the sudden disappearance of a horse. It Beems that on the Monday previous a neighbouring settler, having occasion, to go a journey, sUbled hia horse overnights, leaving feed in the box, and securely fastening tko stable door and the gate of the tmrrounding yard. On going to the BUble at daylight in tne mornintf _c found everything as he had left it the night previous, minus the horae. Aa the horse was bred in the district it was at first thought that it would soon be found, but search in every direction for miles around has, so far, failed to ducover any trace of tbe animal. Petty Theft —The constable s attention has aUo been directed to several petty thefts in th« "locality. Mr Burnett has had several chatni of wire abstracted from hU fence, and some patent strainers are mißsing. Two or three settler* hava lately complained of wire and strainers being taken from their fences.
