IMPORTS AND EXfORTS.

The value of imports for the quarter ended September 30 wan £1,903,163, as againtt £1,8*7,816 for the Bame period last year. The following is a comparative return at the four principal centres : —

The value of the exports for September quarter was £1,291,834, as against £1,325,157 for the corresponding period in 1893. The values from the chief ports were :—: —

The following is a comparative return of the value of articles exported daring the quarters ending September 1894 and 1893 : —

For the last quarter the gold exported shows a decrease in value of £23,500; kauri gum, £22,700; butter, £30.000 ; rabbitskius, £16,000; bflans and pease, £6500 ; oats, £16,000 ; wheat, £73,000; potatoes, £9700; hemp, £29,000; Bpecie, £59,000. The principal increases are : — Coal, £4500 ; timber, £10,000 ; live stock, £9000 ; preaorved meat, £5000 ; frozen meat, £47,000 ; eheep?kins, £8000 ; tallow, £15,000 ; woal, £36,000. SHIPPING EETURNS. The number of vessels entered inwards during the quarter w&s 127, with a tonnage of 138,426 and crews aggregating 4777, as against 142 vessels of 143,783 tons and orews aggregating 4572 for the corresponding quarter in 1893. The vessels entered outwards were 136, with a tonnage of 137,382 and crews aggregating 4798. For the like period last year the totals were 143, with a tonnage or 140,568 and crews numbering 4335. POST AND TELEQBAPHS. The postal revenue for the September quarter waa £48,523. against £47,962 for the same period last year. The telegraph revenue was £22,423, against £24,239, exclusive of the value of Government telegram*, which amounted in value to £5994 and £6472 respectively. For the quarter ended September money orders were issued to the value of £192,838, as against £190,823 for the like period in 1893. The following were the Savings Bank transactions for the quarter ended September 30 :— ■

The totals for the September quarter of 1893 W ere : — Deposits, £650,853 ; withdrawals, £537,453. During the quarter 82,083 postal notes were issued of the value of £29,185; while for the September quarter 1893 there were 73,385 issued of the value of £26,439. The number of notes paid was 81,491 of the value of £28,523, against 73,905 of the valuo of £25,710 for the same period in 1893.
