WAITAKI SOUTH.
There is excellent accommodation on either side of the bridge. On the north side there is a licensed house, bub there is no license for the old hotel on the south side, but the accommodation is very good. The north side has one'advantage— the express train stops to take on or let off passengers. The river is very low, but trout are, I think, plentiful. Thfve are some good takes reported occasionally by the Oamaru and Waimate aDglers, who pursue their sport night and day and evtry day. They have permanent huts, which remain sending all the season. They also answer for picnic parties. What with visitors and local anglers the river receives every attention. October 29. — The fish are taking pretty well just bow en tbe Waipahi. I hear of some very Bice takes being made lately. Mr J. Smith, of Arthurton, secured a nice basket which we'ghed 251b. Lure, fly. Mr Chisholm, of Dunedin, also was very luoky in securing one day last week 15lb ; al*o myself, 14 fish, 151b. Although the stream is pretty low just now the fish are taking well aud are in good condition. Tbe bes^ lure is the fly.
