SOUTHLAND POULTRY SHOW. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
Invercabgill, August 8.
The eighth annual show held under the auspices of the Southland Poultry, Bird, Pefe, and Dog Society was opened in the Zealandia Hall this afternoon by the mayor. The rain which fell during the afternoon somewhat marred the attendance. The entries, though not quite so numerous as Jast year, are of a superior quality, and the show is considered to be tha best the society has held. Messrs W. Aitkea and Son, of Danedin, take the society's prize for most points in poultry with 78 poiotß • Mr J. Harper, of Invercargill, second with 49 ; and Mr J. Friend, Invercargill, third with 47 points, liie attendance in the evening was good. Tha show will be open again to-morrow, when the dogs will be on view, and excursion trains wilL be runoing from the country stations.
The Ifcv, William fStewarfc, one of the pioneer residents of the Rangitikei and Kiwitea districts, died at Kiwitea last week. He was 74 years of age, and leaves a. widow and six children.
