THE MIOWERA ASHORE.
London, July 31
The Miowera, which is now on an excursion trip in the North of Europe, ran aground at Askerwold, on the coast of Norway, and the passengers had to be landed on an uninhabited island.
The Miowera is under the command of Captain Stott, but the pilot was in charge when she struck at midnight on a rock which was not marked on the chart. The vessel's bottom was torn for some distance, and there are 7ft of water in the hold.
August 1. The Arawa remains in the AustralianCanadian trade, owing to the mishap to the Miowera.
Messrs Huddart, Parker, and Co.'s whole scheme and prospectus will shortly be iseued, with a capital of about two millions.
Lloyd's are Bending tugs to save the Miowera, but it is feared that it may be found necessary to abandon her.
August 2. Only the coolness of Captain Stott and the officers prevented a panic on the Miowera when Bhe 3truck. Captain Stott and the pilot were on the bridge together at the time. The pilot is blamed for the disaster, The passengers were safely taken on board the vessels sent to their rescue.
August 3. A premium of 55 guineas is now demanded on the Miowera.
