TREE PLANTING.

Although Arbor Diy was nob r"coguised by the Anderson's Bay School on Wednesday last for various local reasons the importance of tree planting had not been lost sight of. and the celebration was held on Fi iday, it being a more convenient occasion. A plan of the school ground had been drawn by Mr Waldeu, jun., at the instigation of the committee, and a number of improvements had been decided upon, the carrying into effect of which will extend ov«ir some years. Among them is a systematic planting of native and foreign trees and whruba. Yesterday over a. hundred trees of about 40 kinds were planted at 3 o'clock, under the direction aud Riipetvisiou of the Rev. A Cameron, Mr Macadam, and the teaching staff, the fo'mer guutkmau having addressed the children in his capacity of chairman of the school commit cc. A desire is expressed by the comoiittee to thank Messrs Johnstou (acting for Mr Lee), Youngs m, White, aud M'Lelland, who gave most of fchetr.-es, and those parents who helped either in the sam^ manner or pecuniarily. Their thanks are also duo to Messrs Johnston and B. C Haggibt, who gave thn services for the day of thvir gardeners, Messrs Gordon and Youngaon.

The Reserves Conservation Society on Arbor Day planted 57 plane tr^es, ordinary and crnamatital in alt*rnation, each 20ft; apart, on the north-eastern boundary of the Oval. A fine lesulb will probably appear iv a ie v jears' time. This work has nothing to do with the vroposal to plant the Acder.-on's Bay road. The. idea with respect to thia matter is to commence fro ji buyoud the railw ly crossing.
