At a meeting of the Otago Chtss Club held on the 2nd inst. a resolution was arrived "at to call a special meeting of members with the object of considering a proposed addition to the rules of the club to the effect that "ladies may be admitted as members in the usual way on payment of a subscription of 10s (Jd per annum, dating from July 1 in every year. They are to have all the privileges of members except that they will be restricted in the use of the clubroom to one night in the week, such night to be arranged by the committee. This is to take effect only if a sufficient number signify their intention to join." Women desiring to become members should send their names as early as possible to the secretary, Mr li. P. Grinsted. In Perth (W.A.) the women have a club for themselves with a considerable number of members, and organise and carry through tourney competitions in a spirited style. The Rev. Bryant M. King suggests the formation of a branch of the O.C.C. to meet in St. Peter's Hall, Caversham. It is worth considering whether other branches cannot be established in the suburbs. Players could then have an opportunity of enjoying a game at the one which they miijlit lind most convenient for the time being, and in organising matches each would have an opportunity of selecting players from the others. It has been suggested, and the 0.C.0. have the suggestion under consideration, to organise a north and south annual |tournament for the Middle Island, the players to assemble alternately at Christchurch and Dunedin. The next Easter holidays would probably be a suitable timef or the firsttournament. It is to be hoped the idea will find favourwithour northern players. It seoms to have much to recommend it.

In the Wellington Handicap Tournament the principal scorers are: -Mr S. Mackay, 9 wins, 3 le3ses =18 points; Mr F Turnbull, 9 wins, 4 lo o ses =18 po nts; Mr W. E. Mason, 8 wins, s losses =16 points; MrH. Skeet, 5 wins, 2 losses, 3 draws- 13 points ;Mr X J. Barnes, 5 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw = 11 points. in a telegraphic match between the Kangitikei and Wellington W.M.U. Clubs, seven players a-side, none of the games were finished, and have been referred to Mr Thomas Sexton for adjudication.
