TUAPEKA BOWLING CLUB.

The eleventh annual meeting of the Tuapeka Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Council Chambers on Friday last. The president (Mr James Chalmers) was in the chair, and there were about 17 members present.

The Secretary read the report and balance sheet. The report congratulated tbe club on the increased interest which had been shown in the different games during the year. The subscriptions showed an increase of £7 upon the previous year, and the committee trust that next year the balance sheet will show, if not a credit balance, at least no debit balance. The sum of £11 4-a (arrears) was due from the previous year. The caretaker had been paid during tbe year. Three rinks from the N.Z. Bowling Association visited the green during the season (the first time during the club's existence), when a very social game was played, in which tbe club was victorious. During the season two trophies were given for competition, both of which were keenly contested. The president's (Mr J. Chalmers) trophies, two gold maltese crosses (doubles), were won by Messrs A. M'Donald and J. H. Jackson ; and Mr B. M. Wakefield's (singles), a pair of silver-mounted bowls, were won by a a young colt, Dr Nicoll. The season of the tennis department of the club has been a most successful one, due in a great measure to the tennis sub-committee (Messrs A. Morris, J. Bevan, and H. Darton). The membership has largely increased, and a keen interest has been taken by the players in the game. Two foreign matches were played during the seasoa, both against the Milton Club. Each club scored a win. The local matches resulted as follow :—: — Mr A M 'Donald's cake, Mr R. Stenhouse and Miss Jeffery ; the club's racket, Mr W. H. Hindmarsh ; the lady's racket (presented by W. H. Hindmarsh), Miss Jeffery ; and the tennis shoes (presented by Mr W. Anderson), Miss Dtlly Jeffery. The season was closed by a dance on the Queen's Birthday, which went off most successfully ; and the thanks of the club are due to the ladies who so kindly provided an abundant supply of good things. Since the season closed the tennis lawn and bowling green have been carefully levelled and topdressed, under the supervision of Mr J. H. Jackson, who ako contributed a donation of three guineas towards the work. The committee feel that they are under a debt of gratitude to him. The committee tender their hearty thanks to the donors of the trophies, and to the ladies for providing tea on so many occasions.

The balance sheet shows the receipts to have been £80 4s Id, and the expenditure £79 6s 6d. The present liabilities are £11 7s sd. The membership of lady and gentlemen players is 52.

The report and balance sheet having been adopted, the trophies were presented to the winners.

The following were elected officers for the ensuing year : — President, Mr J. H. Jackson ; vice-president, Mr W. H. Hindmarsh ; treasurer, Mr M. M'Lean ; secretary, Mr H. Leary ; committee — Messrs J. Chalmers, E. M. Wakefield, W. Anderson, Dr Nicoll, and F. G. Dalziel ; auditor, Mr G. O. Taylor ; delegates to N.Z. Bowling Association — Messrs J. Chalmers and G. Jeffery. The matter of joining the Tennis Association was left to the committee. Votes of thanks to the retiring president (Mr James Chalmers) and to Mr G. The silver medal won by the club in the interclub match against the Taieri was presented to the late president.
