HUNTING

PUNEDIN HOUNDS.

Saturday's meet at Halfway Bush, despite liquid mud beneath and weeping skies above, attracted a fairly average attendance. Several ladies, nothing daunted by the unpromisir>g state of the elements and a more than level chance of a drenching, put in an appearance quite as a matter of course, thus showing a praiseworthy example to those effeminate members who claim to be of the sterner sex. Their courage deserved a better reward, as the ground and the approaches to the fences were found to be in such a sodden state that a run was out of the question. Although Mr Kedfllje, the owner of the land, not to

spoil sport, offered no objections, it was decided that, considering the state of the ground, it would be taking advantage of that gentleman's good nature, and horses' heads were turned again for town, a little larking over stone walls being indulged in just to vary the monotony of the proceedings. Amongst the disappointed ones were Mr Stronaoh, on a chestnut* Mr Reid, Highland Chief ; Mr Baird, Banker ; Mr W. H. Taggart, Camel ; Mi- Rise, roan cob : Mr Miller, Stockfish ; Mr W. M'Kewcn, Myrtle ; Mr H. Gourley, Nenthorn ; Mr James Cotton, Toprail ; Mr Price, Armadale ; hon. huntsman (Mr IJriver), Pioneer; Frank Smith, Waitangi; Miss Batchelor, Forester ; Mrs Taggart, Kelly; Mrs Swanson, Te Kooti; Miss Smith (Southland), Harkaway. Mr and Mrs Lachlan Maclean were present in a buggy. Nimrod.
