THE LONDON WOOL SALES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) May 18.
After a recess of three clays, on account of tho Whitsuntide holidays, the sales were resumed on 'Wednesday in the presence of a good muster of buyers, whose number, however, was not equal to the attendance at the first part of the series. Notwithstanding the drawback the sales passed off with briskness, bids being given with great spirit The selection this week has included several good medium scoured brands, and for these and similar descriptions in grease competition has been keen Home buyers are well to the front, being backed by the German saction, whilst French consumers have shown much reserve. Pr'ces for all good classes of combing iml Nothing have fully maintained opening rates. Heavj' - conditioned and inferior parcels have dragged ; the inquiry for fiem has been inegular, and generally they are selling at to -£d down. New Zea'aud erossbreds have again been in good supply and the demand most active, the Home trade taking the lead, being supported for the better class by the Germans, and for the medium and inferior qualities by the French users. Tasmanians have again been eagerly competed for, and realised full valves. 11i3 demand for Capes and Nutals has lately improved, scoured mostly recovering the drop of £d of the first week. Fieece washed are selling quite up to March quotations, but greases are still marked by
irregularity, and prices continue to rule against sellers
