MOONLIGHT.

June 23.— Everything here is at a standstill owing to the bad weather, snow having fallen to the depth of some four or five inches, and being followed by very cold wind and rain, consequently agricultural work is not thought of for the present. Previous to the bad weather grain was being carted to market, some via Hyde and some by Dunback. An Unfortunate.— l regret very much to say that Mr W. Sutherland was taken to the Lunatic Asylum on the 20th, being of unsound mind. He is a single man, about 62 yeara of age, a native of the north of Scotland, and held the position of head shepherd on Deepdell station when the New Zealand and Australian Land Company had it, while for the past two years he has been shepherding for Mr C. S. Hay, of Deepdell, who along with Mrs Hay haye often proved the " good Samaritan" by keeping him on when he was able to do very little. It is to be hoped his trouble may not prove of a permanent nature. Nenthorn.— Mr Reynolds, of the firm cf Park, Reynolds, and Co., of Manse street, Dunedin, was up at Nenthorn ou the 22nd, and offered for sale the mining and crushing plant of the Eureka Quartz Mining Company. The boiler, engine, mill, and berdans were not sold, offers not coming .up to reserves. All the rest was sold at whatever it would bring. The attendance was small owing to the bad weather, and Mr Reynolds did not get there until about 4 pm. owing to th# roads between Middlemarch and Nenthorn being so heavy, and consequently he did not get through all the lots that night, but had to continue the sale next morning.
