CLYDE.

June 25.— The residents of Springvale have made application to the Education Board for the services of an assisted teacher. The parents of children in Springvale find it both expensive and inconvenient sending their youngsters a distance of five or six miles to school, hence their application to the board for a resident teacher. At Galloway station, a distance of about three miles from Springvale, an assisted school has been established for some time past, but owing to the fact of the treacherous Manuherikia river separating the two localities, it is impossible for the children of Springvale to attend the Galloway school, and vice versa. It would seem as if the board were desirous that the children should attend the Galloway school, but it is utterly impossible for them to do so without much risk of their lives, as the ford is a treacherous one, so much so indeed that it is now wholly abandoned as a public crossing for vehicles. It is to be hoped, therefore, that the board will accede to the request of the residents of Springvale, and that a teacher will ba sent hither in the immediate future.

Electioneering.— On Saturday evening a public meeting was held in the Library Room for the purpose of forming a committee to further the interests of Mr Larnach's candidature for the Tuapeka seat. Mr Nay lor, sen., presided, and after the formal business of the meeting wjis gone through an influential executive committee was formed, and active steps are to be taken to secure Mr Larnach's return.
